A face with a sagging neckline usually requires a scalpel and surgery to correct, says Philadelphia plastic surgeon Dr. Paul Glat. who is among the first doctors in the U.S. to be trained with the new "SideLase" fiber optic device which uses a thin laser wire to deliver skin tightening energy without cutting or sutures. Fox 29 News covers the story of a woman having her double chin tightened in this video clip.

The procedure begins with just one tiny incision, about the size of the tip of a ballpoint pen which is made under the chin. A local anesthetic numbs the area and a very thin fiber optic wire is inserted through the tiny incision, and a beam of light is emitted from the laser wire. The side-firing fiber optic wire is unique because one side heats the dermis (deeper layer of the skin) while the other melts the fat, which spurs new collagen growth and skin tightening. The procedure takes less than an hour.
