The technology uses ultrasound delivered through the skin to affect the fat. The other types of ultrasound treatments that have been available until now were invasive, requiring the use of a cannula (a tube as used in liposuction) introduced into the fatty tissue to heat tissue, so it became an actual surgical procedure.
The VASER Shape device is different because it uses two ultrasound sources that are positioned next to each other. The ultrasound energy converges like a V below the surface of the skin, says Dr. Berkowitz. After the fat has been disrupted, the body begins absorbing it, assisted by a lymphatic massage which is part of the treatment.
Most patients will see some immediate results – and treatments for most people are recommended in a series of 5 to 7 treatments, spaced every 5-7 days. The speed of the results varies based on the patient. Normally, once a person completes the round of treatments, no further follow-up treatments are necessary.
As with other body contouring devices, surgical and otherwise, this treatment is not for the extremely overweight and is not a weight loss plan. It is rather for those who are in generally good health but cannot get rid of a few stubborn areas of fat.
VASER Shape is designed for spot fat reduction and can be especially effective for men and women of average weight and those who are already maintaining a relatively healthy lifestyle. VASER Shape can be used to reduce unwanted fat from these common problem areas:
Inner thighs
Outer thighs
Love handles
Abdomen
Underarms
Upper back
Lower back
It’s important to keep in mind that VASER Shape will produce subtle yet noticeable results, and is a good match for patients who want to lose a few inches without surgery. If you are looking to lose larger volumes of fat, you may be a better candidate for traditional liposuction.
