Marketing For Plastic Surgeons Enhanced With TV Exposure, Online Publicity

Effective marketing can help plastic surgeons get on TV News and Talk Shows, build and improve their online marketing and attract more patients.
By Gary Grasso, Director
Doctor's PR & Marketing

Doctors on TV
You must have either a unique story, insight into a certain procedure or technique, or the creativity to make a compelling story:

Eye Candy
Talking heads are out. Great visuals are in. Use  photos, B-roll (background video), demonstrations, even animations to paint a vivid visual picture.

A plastic surgeon should appear energetic and accessible, yet professional on camera. He or she must be well-versed in the particular subject and provide information to viewers in a way that is understandable and compelling. Informative talking points are essential.

Online Marketing and Public Relations
More than ever, online PR is an essential component of a plastic surgeon’s winning marketing strategy. Online is where most everything happens, from your website and blog to press releases, original video, Instagram, Facebook and “recycled” media coverage, which can keep your previous TV appperances and media stories working indefinitely 24 hours a day. "By creating and promoting the right mix of online information we can establish highly visible multi-media sources to inform, educate and refer new patient inquiries to a plastic surgery practice," says Grasso. "Multiple first-page Google search placements of articles, blogs, press releases and video can dominate search results using multiple search terms. With the right strategies quality content will appear and remain in first-page search results for months or years."

Blogs
Blogs are one of the most under-utilized and misused marketing assets in many practices. They should be used as an important news source and communication tool to reach prospective patients. Blog articles must be newsworthy rather than just a random series of updates. Use the power of  a blog to educate, inform and attract patients, and even to help attract media inquiries.

Marin County Doctor Introduces Neck Lift For Skin Tightening While Improving Skin Texture

Dr. Karron Power says the new non-surgical neck lift offered at PowerMD is a specialized laser treatment which offer the dual benefits of tightening the skin while improving skin texture and tone for best results.

“Sagging skin on the neck can now be treated with a new technique that not only provides skin tightening but also improves the texture and tone of the skin, all in the same treatment,” says Dr. Karron Power, medical director of PowerMD in Marin County.

Dr. Karron Power discusses a new fix for a double chin
on ABC 7 News, San Francisco
"A sagging neckline can make anyone look years older and tired, and is one of three major “markers of aging” on the face which also include drooping eyelids and loss of facial volume," says Dr. Power. "In the past, a lower facelift was the only effective way to tighten the neckline, requiring incisions and recovery time, but now this effective non-surgical treatment is available to Bay Area residents who don't want or need plastic surgery."

“The treatment is done using the Claro2, an advanced laser that tightens skin more effectively than intense pulsed light (IPL) or other types of lasers,” says Dr. Power. "And unlike other laser treatments, this treatment also addresses the skin's texture, tone and appearance. The result is a sleeker neckline with tighter, firmer skin that looks younger and refreshed."

“We can also build up the definition of a person’s jawline using Sculptra, an injectable treatment that promotes rejuvenation of facial volume,” says Dr. Power.

Dr. Karron Power Shows Double Chin Injection on KGO 7 News San Francisco

Can you erase a double chin without surgery? Dr. Karron Power is scheduled to appear on KGO 7 News, Wednesday, July 8th to show how injectable treatments can get rid of a double chin by dissolving small areas of unwanted fat. Dr. Power also discusses Kybella, a new injectable treatment recently approved by the FDA for use under the chin. The story is scheduled to run in the 6:00 pm news hour.

Dr. Power, the medical director of PowerMD in Marin County, CA now offers “The Double Chin Eraser” which uses a compounded formula which she says has an effect similar to that of Kybella. The KGO news story shows Dr. Power administering the Double Chin Eraser treatment to a female patient.

Dr. Karron Power discusses Kybella and other double chin treatments on ABC News"Kybella is similar to the deoxycholic acid that is produced in the body," says Dr. Power. "Deoxycholic acid helps the body to absorb fats. When injected into tissue deoyxholic acid destroys targeted fat cells.”  Dr. Power says the treatment's benefits, risks and alternatives are discussed with each patient.

“The Double Chin Eraser injectable treatment is effective for dissolving small amounts of unwanted fat,” says Dr. Power. “Some patients may also benefit from a specialized laser treatment
which can help to tighten the skin,” she says.

Doctors PR For Physicians Places Doctors On TV Combined With Online PR

“The demand for medical news and information presents both opportunities and challenges for physicians in all fields,” says Gary Grasso, director of Doctor’s PR & Marketing, the PR agency with extensive experience working all areas of medical and healthcare including orthopedic surgery, plastic surgery, dermatology, cardiology, etc. “The opportunities are virtually unlimited for doctors who offer excellent patient care combined with leading technology combined with a well-planned public education and marketing strategy."

Doctors on TV
Doctor's PR client shows body contouring on ABC News
Doctor’s PR develops story ideas and places physician clients on TV news and talk shows across the country including the Dr. Oz Show, The Doctors, Good Morning America, TODAY and hundreds of local TV news and talk show outlets. “This TV exposure has proven to be the ‘gold standard’ in building credibility and driving public awareness of available treatments and procedures, but there is so much more we can do to build practices,” says Grasso.

Branding
“The message of what a practice has to offer and how treatments and procedures are done is crucial," says Grasso. "A practice must inform the public regarding its protocols and provide descriptions of treatments to reflect what the doctor believes will provide the best options  for his or her patients.

Online PR for Physicians
“A strong presence in online search is extremely important for any medical practice, however we must think beyond the confines of just SEO to promote  websites,” says Grasso. “Even though a doctor’s website may be well designed and rank high in search results, that provides just one opportunity to be seen online. What if we could create a dominant presence in search results with multiple articles and video showing on the first page of Google search? Better yet, consider the power of achieving similar results under multiple search terms.”

SEO or WPO? What about both?
"Physicians can gain new patient inquiries and continue contact with established patients by boosting their online visibility with “WPO,” or web presence optimization, says Grasso. “A strategic mix of well-written press releases, video content, targeted and original articles in blogs and other online strategies can result in multiple exposures on the first page of Google search, which if undertaken correctly can be replicated for multiple search terms,” says Grasso.

Dr. John Chao Shows Pinhole Gum Rejuvenation On NBC 4 News L.A. Friday, Nov. 15th

Los Angeles, CA -  A new treatment for receding gums that has been called the best alternative to gum grafting will be seen this Friday, Nov. 15th on NBC Channel 4 News at 5:00 p.m. Dr. John Chao, dentist, educator and inventor of Pinhole Gum Rejuvenation™, also known as the Pinhole Surgical Technique™ will show how a woman with pronounced gum recession can be given a new smile in minutes with no cutting, no stitches and no grafting.

“Pinhole Gun Rejuvenation™ is a sophisticated, yet simple way to move receding gums back into place without grafting surgery,” says Dr. Chao. “Rather than cutting and transferring gum tissue, the new technique takes just a few minutes per tooth treated with virtually no pain and no downtime,” he says.
Top To Bottom:  Receding Gums,
During Pinhole Gum Rejuvenation,
Gums Restored To Healthy Position
In Minutes Without Gum Grafting.

How Pinhole Gum Rejuvenation™ Is Done:
A small entry point is made in the gum above the tooth or teeth to be treated.Specialized dental
instruments designed and patented by Dr. Chao are inserted into the entry points and moved to free the gum tissue, then the gums are gently guided down to their proper position. Next, a small angled instrument is used to pass several collagen strips through the entry point and place them under the gums. “The collagen helps to keep the gum tissue in place and stimulates the body to generate more collagen. The procedure takes about a half an hour to an hour and as many up to sixteen teeth can be treated at the same time. The small entry point quickly heals and is virtually undetectable the next day,” says Dr. Chao.

Treatment For Receding Gums on ABC 7 News Los Angeles

June 12, 2013 - Dr. John Chao appears on the 5:00 p.m. news tonight on KABC Channel 7 with the Pinhole Surgical Technique™,  a new treatment for gum recession with no cutting, scalpels or sutures. Health reporter Denise Dador shows how the new treatment works with a patient treatment and animation of the procedure.

“People should be aware of receding gums which can be caused by excessive tooth brushing, gum disease or the normal aging process,” says Dr. Chao, a leading Los Angeles area dentist who invented the Pinhole Surgical Technique, also known as "Pinhole Gum Rejuvenation™".

“Many people are unaware of their gum recession until they their teeth become sensitive to cold temperatures because of root exposure,” he says. “Others are concerned by the unsightly appearance of their receding gums.”

“The standard treatment for receding gums has been gum grafting surgery, a painful and invasive procedure in which a section of gum tissue must be cut out of the palate, then sewn on to the affected area,” says Dr. Chao. “Because of the pain and recovery time, dentists can usually treat only one or two teeth at a time.”

“This got me considering a better way to treat gum recession,” says Dr. Chao. ”Could we simply slide receding gums back down into place, with no grafting or stitches?” Dr. Chao says he worked on numerous ways to achieve this goal and through research he has developed his minimally invasive technique to restore gums to their proper position, using a few simple instruments which he designed. “Pinhole Gum Rejuvenation takes just a few minutes per tooth. There is no cutting, no downtime required and multiple teeth may be treated at the same time,” says Dr. Chao.

How The Pinhole Surgical Technique Is Done:

The area of gum recession is numbed with a local anesthetic, then a tiny entry point, about the size of the tip of a ballpoint pen is made in the gum above the tooth or teeth to be treated. A specially designed dental instrument is inserted into the entry point and manipulated to loosen the gum tissues; then the gums are moved down to a normal, healthy position. The instrument is withdrawn, then Dr. Chao uses a small angled forceps, or “pliers” to place several tiny collagen strips through the entry point under the gums. The collagen helps keep the tissue in place as new collagen is formed by the body.
Receding Gums (L) are moved down (M) and returned to a normal position (R)

The entire treatment takes about 20 minutes to an hour, depending on the number of teeth treated. The entry hole quickly heals and is virtually undetectable the next day, with no downtime needed for healing. Patients can return to their daily activities and can eat and drink normally.

For more information on Pinhole Gum Rejuvenation™ visit www.AlhambraDental.com or call (888) 309-7501.

Dentist Invents New Treatment To Slide Receding Gums Back Down

Dr. John Chao says his invention of the Pinhole Surgical Technique™ provides a minimally invasive treatment for receding gums that literally slides gum tissue back down to its proper position. The treatment requires no cutting or stitches, eliminating the pain and extended downtime of conventional gum grafting surgery.  Dr. Chao is a dentist who practices in Alhambra, CA.

A 33-month study of 43 patients with 121 gum recessions using the Pinhole Surgical Technique™ was published in the October, 2012, issue of the International Journal of Periodontics and Restorative Dentistry. The results of this study were as successful as the standard gum grafting procedure, while patients who underwent the Pinhole Surgical Technique™ reported virtually no pain, no bleeding and high satisfaction with the almost instant transformation of the defective gum line. (Int J Periodontics Restorative Dent 2012; 32: 521-531.)

Dr. Chao’s patient “Maria” is only 36, but she has receding gums. “That’s not as unusual as people may think, says Dr. Chao. “We see gum recession in patients of all ages. Half the population has some degree of receding gums, but many people are unaware of it until they experience sensitivity to cold or notice the roots of their teeth beginning to show,” he says.

“Like Maria, many patients have been reluctant to have their receding gums corrected because they are afraid of undergoing painful gum grafting,” says Dr. Chao. But Maria is having the Pinhole Surgical Technique done which will restore her unsightly, receding gums in minutes, says Dr. Chao.

To begin the treatment, the affected teeth are cleaned and prepared and the gum tissue is numbed with a local anesthetic. A needle is used to make a small  entry point in the gum above the tooth or teeth to be treated.

A special instrument designed by Dr. Chao is inserted into the entry point and moved to free the gum tissue, then the gums are gently pushed down to position. Dr. Chao then uses a small angled forceps, or “pliers” to pass several tiny collagen strips through the entry point and place them under the gums

which help to keep the tissue in place as new collagen is formed by the body. This completes the procedure, which takes about a half an hour depending on the number of teeth treated. The small entry hole quickly heals and is virtually undetectable the next day.

“Until the invention of the Pinhole Surgical Technique™, gum grafting surgery was the gold standard for treatment of receding gums,” says Dr. Chao. “However, surgical gum grafting is a much more invasive procedure which requires a scalpel to cut and remove a section of gum from the roof of the mouth which must then be sutured in place over the area of recession. Because of the cutting and stitches required, most dentists will only treat one or two teeth at a time, then the patient will need to heal before having more teeth done. The patient must deal with considerable post-op pain, bleeding, and healing time. However, the Pinhole Surgical Technique can address several teeth through just one tiny entry point. “Unlike gum grafting, multiple teeth can be treated in one session,” says Dr. Chao, who will soon be instructing other dentists in the new treatment. Stem Cell Face Lift As Seen On Fox 11 News Los Angeles: Does It Work?

Dr. Richard Ellenbogen, a leading Beverly Hills plastic surgeon says facial fat grafting can do everything claimed for so-called “stem cell face lifts”. “Patients should be wary of marketing claims without scientific evidence,” he says.

Dr. Ellenbogen's patient before & after facial fat grafting.
"Stem cell face lifts have received lots of media attention, but has anyone really looked into the claims being made for their success?” asks Dr. Ellenbogen. “The extraction of stem cells is a tedious process which requires extra equipment and time in the operating room which increases the cost of the procedure,” he says. “In  evaluating the results of 25 stem cell face lifts I have performed, I detected no additional benefits over straight fat grafting on follow-ups done four months post-op. I believe that fat grafting delivers the desired results at a lower cost.”

“Most doctors who are performing stem cell face lifts are harvesting fat, spinning it in a centrifuge then injecting it into the face, which is basically fat transfer,” says Dr. Ellenbogen. “Whatever stem cells are present come along."

Dr. Ellenbogen says he performs fat grafting on many of his face lift patients to address both of the major causes of facial aging: sagging and deflation. The sagging is corrected by the face lift, and the fat that has been lost with age is replaced to create the most natural and realistically youthful look possible.

Medical Practice Public Relations Gets A Boost With Online Content

By Gary Grasso Director, Doctor's P.R. & Medical News

Strong online visibility is vital for physicians in private practice. Achieving first page Google search results and similar success with other search engines is an accomplishment in itself which requires research and analysis, quality writing and effective headline composition, but that’s just the beginning.  While some articles and press releases gain a temporary first page presence, most will move down in rankings as days or weeks go by, or will simply drop off quickly. The real value in online search results lies in gaining and maintaining a first page position, based on multiple search terms.

Strategic placement of quality medical content can result in a strong search presence in the most important and relevant topics for a medical practice.  In 2012, only 15% of consumers surveyed said they did not use the Internet to find a business in their local area. This means that 85% of people use the Internet for local searches. source: SearchEngineLand, 2012

This is not about SEO for doctor's websites, but rather about building a multilayered package of text and visual content to leverage a physician's online presence which will also multiply the results of even the best designed and optimized website. This is about creating many ways for people to find what they’re looking for, which will show up in online search even where your website doesn’t appear. It's all about providing valuable information and telling multiple stories about your practice and your services, and having this quality content linking back to your website.

Depending on the topic, search phrases and geographic location a search phrase might return 75,000 results, a million results or more. So how can we increase the chances that once a first page presence is accomplished, it will remain long-term? More importantly, how can physicians see their online presence rise to a higher level with multiple first and second page results?

Research + Strategic Planning + Quality Content = A Strong Online Presence

We can take a physician’s online exposure to the next level with a strategy which includes the creation and placement of informative online press releases, bylined articles and original video, all emphasizing quality content.
Doctor's P.R. has achieved 5 of the first 6 first-page search results for
"spinal fusion San Francisco" with a mix of video, blogs & press releases.

For example, Doctor’s P.R. has built and maintains first page placement for a leading spine surgeon with results showing under multiple search terms. We have achieved four, five and more results on the first page of online searches for this client, which has built a powerful and dominant “expert source” for people searching for a qualified spine surgeon and information on spinal fusion, spinal stenosis, spinal disc replacement and related topics,” says Grasso. We also produce original video, online articles and links to television appearances and news stories in which we have placed the client.

These are some of the strategies which are achieving high visibility for doctors in virtually all fields including plastic and cosmetic surgery, cardiology, spinal surgery, anti-aging medicine and sports medicine.
